I desired to be an esthetician because I had a fascination for skin disorders and why people developed different hair and skin disorders and skin diseases.
I was also fascinated with different hair products and what was in them that caused hair to grow. Unfortunately, there were no schools for estheticians in the state that I lived in in the 1980’s, so I was instructed to go to cosmetology school.
I completed cosmetology school in 1995. Chemical-based products such as the Jheri curl were very popular.
Afro’s and other natural hairstyles were being phased out and relaxers were once again making a come back with the introduction of the “No lye” relaxer.
I too abandoned the Jheri curl and started using relaxer products.
After years of using chemical-based relaxers, I developed 5 grapefruit sized fibroid tumors on my uterus and was forced to get a full hysterectomy versus laser surgery removal of the tumors in order to avoid going into stage 4 cancer in the event the tumors were cancerous.
After careful consideration, I decided it would be a wise decision to only use all natural 100% plant-based products on my hair and skin to compliment the vegan diet I was on.
At the time in 2007, there were no 100% plant based, organic product options available on the market, that were beneficial for my hair type and sensitive skin, so I began experimenting with different plant-based ingredients until I found formula’s that worked for me and voila, I began making my own vegan hair and skin care products.
Years later, I caught wind of Ayurveda, which was and is very popular in India. They use Ayurvedic plant-based ingredients for medicine, skin care, fertility, hair growth and much more. Ayurvedic products were completely unknown in the United States at that time, and for the most part it remains largely unknown to the majority of Americans in 2023. Instead of doing something that everyone else was already doing in the United States, I decided to do something different and introduce America to India’s secret, “Ayurveda,” and incorporate Ayurvedic herbs with the formula I had previously concocted.
